Book Launch Humans Make Nature

Book launch with Gabriele Mackert and Michael Wagreich.
Michael Wagreich is associate professor and head of the Department of Geodynamics and Sedimentology at the University Vienna. He is member of the Anthropocene Working Group of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) and will present news from their latest meeting.

The invention of the Anthropocene as a name for the current geologic epoch vitiated the idea of a pristine, untouched nature: humans have irreversibly changed the planet and its ecosystem to a largely artificial system that demands a new definition of the relation between humans and nature, as well as a fundamental revision of our concepts.

The Department of Site-Specific Art of the University of Applied Arts Vienna invited experts from different disciplines to the Round Table Humans Make Nature. Landscapes of the Anthropocene. The reader presents essays by Heather Davis, Matt Edgeworth, Gabriele Mackert, Gloria Meynen, Christian Schwägerl as well as artists’ pages by Claudia Märzendorfer, Christian Mayer, and Hermann Painitz.
