Winter 2020/21
Digitale Formate

Artistic Practice: digital formats 1

The introductory seminar teaches media-specific basics such as data compression, file formats, recording media etc., as well as the handling of the equipment of the institute. This semester focuses on working with the camera. Introductions to audio and video editing programs – if required.

Based on my own practice, the focus is on audiovisual media, but the individual projects are freely selectable in terms of form and content. The teached basics should lead to own artistic projects and give the possibility to try out digital formats. Which tools, formats and methods do I choose and how do these affect the work?

The goal is a basic knowledge of digital processes and tools, the ability to use them for the own practice and to locate oneselves work within current discourses. I therefore recommend attending the course Digital Formats 2 at the same time, which focuses on the realization of individual projects.

If we stay in distance learning mode, the course changes a little: the meetings are held via ZOOM or jitsi and, since a camera workshop is not very useful then, the focus is shifted to working with audio and video editing programs.

Assessment: Active participation, experimental exercises, group and one-to-one interviews

Artistic Practice: digital formats 2

The second part focuses on the conceptualization and realization of an artistic project. I recommend to visit both courses together (in the same semester), so that basic knowledge can be coupled to individual working approaches. If there is already a mature concept or an advanced project, it is also possible to register for the second part only.

You can also use the course for individual feedback talks. The focus can be on content-related and/or technical questions. For that please arrange dates separately.

If we stay in distance learning mode, the meetings will be held via ZOOM or jitsi and communication will take place via email, rocket chat and the base.

Assessment: Active participation, group and one-to-one interviews, presentation of the project
